Many Photos
We're the Walker's and this is our life! We originally started this blog to keep family updated on how Daks was growing and learning since we moved so far away from everyone. I got sick with pregnancy #2 and didn't keep up on it very well. It has a lot of updating to do and maybe someday I'll get to it. For the meantime, here are some pictures of us and Daks!
Our neighbor, Dylan, came over to play. He showed Daks how to play "catch". We had to explain that Daks doesn't know how to catch a ball because he's small still. So Dylan would roll it to him. They both had lots of fun! Garrick taught Daks how to KICK the ball. We thought it ws pretty cute until the next day when Daks kicked a baby at church... January 26, 2006
Daks was placed in his high chair to play. Next thing we knew he had fallen asleep! You can see the tips of his toes barely sticking out from under the tray since he always pulls that leg up under there when he's in the high chair. Again, as so often is the case, it didn't look very comfortable, but that doesn't seem to matter to him! January 25, 2006
I guess Daks was anxious to go on another trip before we even unpacked from the last one? He had lots of fun climbing all over these suitcases. When he wanted down he would get as close to the edge as he could, tip forward, and fall until his head hit the floor. Then he would try to pull the rest of his body down by crawling onto the floor. Once he got down he would turn around and climb back up again! January 24, 2006
Tia Tiah came to see us and Daks and I decided to go back with her and visit for a few days. Grandma Rosie took us out for ice cream and Tiah and I gave him little bites of our ice cream. Turns out he really likes it! He would get mad at us if we put the spoon in one of our mouths instead of his. And as you can see, he got it all over his face! January 18, 2006
This picture was taken to demonstrate Daks' immense strength. Notice how all of the toys on his exersaucer are bent toward him? He grabs them and pulls them as close as he can to himself so that he can get his mouth around them. Daks got his first tooth a week ago and the second one is on its way as well! January 11, 2006
Daks drank right from the cup! First time he's ever done that! First time he's ever had apple juice, too. He really liked the stuff! He was messy with that cup, but he is with a bottle, too. And we can't ever just have a picture taken of him in the action anymore. As soon as he sees that camera, he cheeses it up! December 30, 2005
Daks' Grandma Julie fed him his first sweet potatoes. He LOVED them! A good way to end his First Christmas Day! We took a little road trip on Christmas to visit the Grandparents. We stopped to see my cousins on our way. One of them had some rubber darts for a gun and would hand them to Daks to play with. As soon as they got in his little hand he would drop them on the floor and just LAUGH!!! He thought it was the funniest thing to see this cousin continuously bend over to pick up the darts! I wish I could show the video on here...
Here's MY Christmas present! I wonder what it could be... Garrick talked and talked for MONTHS about how excited he was to get this present for me. It was HUGE and I couldn't figure out what it could possibly be! Turns out Santa had to cover the entire cupboard to hide well my under-the-cupbaord installed computer screen!!! I was so excited and I LOVE it!
A perfect Christmas card shot! Daks was so cute in his little Santa outfit! I had a really hard time actually getting a good photograph. Mostly he just wanted to eat the "snow" and Star Wars figurines from the tree. He couldn't have struck a cuter pose, though! He's so photogenic and I'm baffled as to where he gets that from! We have been trying to teach Daks how to hold his own bottle. He can HOLD it, but he can't quite understand how to get that bottle's goodness in him. He'll suck on the nipple, and then see the liquid in the bottom of the bottle, so he turns the bottle over and sucks on the bottom of it. I think we still have some work to do... November 28, 2005
Daks ate in his high chair for the first time today! He had some rice cereal. It was also the first time he ate rice cereal, or off from a spoon for that matter. He was sure messy! Grandma Julie taught us a trick she had to use with Garrick. We made the cereal thicker the next time and he did MUCH better! November 28, 2005
Daks' little cousin, Kianna, came to play. Daks was kind enough to let her play in his exersaucer, even though her tippy toes could barely touch the ground in it. The stipulation for Kianna playing in Daks' toy was that he got her grab her hair and poke her eyes out. Daks was the only one who thought that was a good trade.

Six days after his first Halloween Daks discovered candy bars. I put an unwrapped chocolate bar in his hand, just to see what he would do. He held onto it and waved it around; he let it melt all over him and his pajamas. But he wouldn't put it in his mouth! He preferred to eat the wrapped candy bars!
November 3, 2005. We have been trying to teach Daks to drink through a straw. He still just sticks his tongue out and licks everything. The straw has been thus unsuccessful. We were also trying to get him to drink some prune juice. He would get the first taste in his mouth and rip his head away from the bottle in disgust. He had this nasty look on his face and would smack his tongue against his lips. Usually when Daks gets something in his mouth that he doesn't like he will take it again when offered. Not the prune juice, though! He remembered it....
Now we all know why the dead smiley face is dead...he was shot in the forehead! Garrick even carved an exit wound in the back of the pumpkin and splattered pumpkin brains all over the side of the house. You can kind of see our curtains in the background...they're black with silver skull and crossbone decorations. We did it just for Halloween...in September....and they'll probably be there until next year...
Everyday I show Daks "the cute baby in the mirror." He LOVES that cute baby! He grins and goos...oh, it's the cutest thing! It almost appears as if he's critiquing himself and making adjustments on his outfit. I had to put velcro on the hat to get it to stay on his head. It's a bit small, while the liederhosen is the only thing he owns that is too big!
We visited the Museum of Church History and Art for one of Garrick's school projects. They had a whole section of art done by children between the ages of 3 and 12. It was really cute and neat! Garrick is sporting a Daks being carried in a baby back-pack, fully installed with binki lanyard so the bink can't be dropped on the ground.
Daks can balance a spoon on his nose! I wish I had a picture of him doing it. It's really funny. He holds his nose up in the air, and keeps his whole body very still, while Garrick puts the spoon on his nose. But that's not why Daks is crying. He was playing with this spoon and looked over at Garrick, in his costume. Daks' little face turned sad and he started to CRY! It was so sad! After that, we took Daks home, and took our Halloween costumes off.
We all dressed up for our ward Halloween party. Garrick was Joe Dirt, and Daks was, of course, a spider. A little girl at the party asked me what I was, and why I was wearing a bath robe. I didn't know what to say... We were already in our costumes when we woke Daks up and he looked at us with a very confused look on his face. He did NOT like our costumes!
Uncle Dewey saw this BYU onesie and told Aunt Tannis that they needed to buy it. She questioned, "Who would we give it to? We don't have any babies!" So they gave it to Daks. He's sitting up really well by himself. Since he got the exersaucer, he stands pretty well, too. (If we hold onto him, of course.) He's getting really good balance. October 16, 2005
On October 7, Daks got an exersaucer. He watched Garrick put it together, wide eyed the whole time. He was curious about what Dad was doing, and he was very excited! Daks gets in his exersaucer and he goes right to work! There are some buttons with animals on them that make the animal noises, say their name, say the name in spanish, and then play a song. Daks loves to dance to "Old McDonald Had A Farm".
We went to the Arizona Strip for General Conference weekend. Grandma Rosie gave Daks a piece of chocolate licorice. You should have seen him try to figure out how to get that long, skinny candy in his mouth! Just before we went out there, Daks started seeing things and reaching out for them. He's getting it figured out pretty well. Well enough that whenever anything is near him he thinks it's FOR him. He's constantly grabbing at things and shoving them in his mouth. October 2, 2005
We were in St. George for a few weeks while Garrick had a break from school. Daks started rolling over by himself!!! He was playing with his Daddy and having a good time. Since Daks started rolling over so well, he won't sleep on his back anymore. He rolls up on his side, and THEN falls asleep. Even more recently he's decided he prefers to sleep on his stomach. Now when he pees during the night the diaper won't hold it and he frequently wets the bed. September 29, 2005.
Daks found his toes! And they are ALWAYS in his mouth!!! At least it gives his hands a break. He has eczema, and sucking on his hands makes a rash on his little fingers. In the morning, when we get Daks out of bed, it's not unusual for him to have one wet sock. You can also see the place on his nose that he scratched and left another scar, to compliment the one on his cheek. September 22, 2005.
Since Daks was born he does what looks like he's sucking on his bottom lip. He's actually biting it. He did it for a while after he was born, and then stopped for a couple of months. Then he started doing it again. We're constantly pulling his lip out of his gums so that it doesn't become a habit. Let's face it, if he does this when he gets teeth, he'll look REALLY goofy! I reached down to fix Daks' eyebrow and it was glued that way! I don't know what he rubbed in it, but it sure made me laugh!
We went to St. George for the weekend to take Talia home. During the time Daks ate his breakfast and woke up for the day, he put this big scratch on his cheek. 3 1/2 months later he still has a scar. He's since added one to his nose as well. By the time he's in elementary school he'll probably look like Edward Scissorhands! August 6, 2005.
There's nothing like taking a bath in the kitchen sink. I know took plenty that way. Daks certainly gets his share, too. Most of the time he showers with Dad. When that doesn't work out, Mom gives him a bath in the sink. He sure loves his bath/shower times, though! He just sits there and lets us do what's necessary, acting like he thoroughly enjoys every second of it! August 4, 2005.
This was our last day in St. George before moving. Great Grandpa Bundy was playing with Daks and I guess he must have been boring or something...'cause he put Grandpa right to sleep! They were both so asleep that after a few minutes, I looked over at them, and Daks had slid clear down Grandpa's belly and was almost head first to fall out of his lap. Grandpa assured me, "I wouldn't let him fall!" I don't think he realized how close to falling Daks already was....
